Day 12- Oh Gnome!

Phew. This past week has been crazy. I apologize for not updating, my fellow munchkins. Work went into overdrive this week (Both my part-time and freelance artsy stuff). Hence, I had to neglect my baby blog here. However, good news is I'm back into action. I'm getting some of my stuff ready for winter. Lots of exciting events are going to be happening. I will admit I soiled myself when I realized how little time I have to get my portfolio ready. But after a fresh change of pants, I'm ready to go into action. I have a few poster designs I'm working on and getting my character portfolio ready for animation companies. And I bet you are wondering what is keeping josiah busy? Well, Here are just a few projects I'm working on.

And many many more projects, which we will discuss at a later date when it isn't so late. Alas, I must dash, but fear not, I'll be back tomorrow night.

Day 11- To A Very Special Girl

                                                                    Foxy's First Birthday
                                                                     (watercolor & ink)

This is to a very special girl.  She's a sweetheart who has stolen my heart. We haven't known each other long, but I can't wait to meet you. To my little niece, Remi, from Uncle Sigh. Hope you have a wonderful birthday.

Day 9 - Back To The Kitchen!

Hey Gang! Remember me?

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to the blog. Work and being nocturnal has been playing havoc with my system, which is why it's been taking so long to update this blog. However, tonight's a special treat. Remember this guy?

Well, there is a gallery exhibition coming up and he might have a chance of getting in (We just need to buff him up a bit so he'll look tasty for the judges). The Exhibit's themed around food. So, I'm thinking of creating a crazy poster starring the cannibalistic chef and a few rowdy food monsters. Here are a few possible monsters that might be joining up.

I'm still in the brainstorming stage, so keep your eyes peeled, because you'll see these guys through the following month. Now, I must dash, cause the night is still young (and I still have many adventures to make before I can say hello to my comfy bed).

Day 8 - I'm Not Big, I'm Fluffy

                                                                    Copic Marker & Ink

I love monsters. Especially fluffy monsters. I dunno what it is, but I always get excited when I'm assigned to draw a monster. This is another character I'm working on for a story. His name is Mister Bickles. Don't worry kids, he's housetrained.

Coming Soon

New artwork is on its way boys and girls! I just need to head off to work and when I get back, there should be something new up on the blog. So remain calm, and take deep breaths. I'll be back before you know it.

Day 7- Sexy In Plaid

Copic Marker & Pen

Tonight is a very special post.....

This character I've been working on quite awhile. He's from one of my stories that I hope one day to turn into a graphic novel. Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to present Kilt Man, Scotland's greatest superhero in plaid. He drinks like a sailor, kicks like a mule, and never misses a happy hour. Expect more appearances of Kilt Man in the near future.

Day 6 - Casual Friday

Copic Marker & Ink

No, it's not Friday, but I can't wait for the end of the week.

Day 5 - Pumping Iron

Copic Marker & Ink

So another funny story.

I got off of work early today. I was very excited as it means I would get to work on artwork and update the blog. However, seeing as I had some extra down time, I decided to take a quick power nap. Well, guess how long that nap lasted? Give you a hint. It wasn't for an hour which was the original plan..... Instead, it lasted a good five hours. Hence, that's why we're running late on the posts. (But we are on our way!). Today's post is brought to you by steroids. Handle with care.

So.......

This is slightly awkward.

I know I haven't really been following my schedule. And I'm not going to make any excuses (except maybe one or two). In case you haven't realized, I also have a daytime job. Although this job takes me a way from my desk, it pays the bills.Sadly, I'm not at a point in my career where I can just solely focus on making art (Hopefully that will change at the end of the year *fingers crossed*). One day, I can hopefully make money off of my artwork. But for the moment, this job will have to do.

In other news, I do have new stuff to show, but due to my  schedule, I'm actually too tired to stay up now. However, don't fret kids, I get off early tomorrow. So here's what's going down. I'm gonna go pass out in my comfy bed, wake up, head off to work, and when I get off around 2:00ish, I'll start uploading new artwork (they should be up on the website around tomorrow evening). Just let me rest for a few hours (the last few days have been really hectic). I promise you it'll be worth the wait.

So where's Day 3?

Yeah, about that. Day 3's character is on her way (yes, that's right. A she. It's of the female persuasion.) I finished inking and coloring her early last night, but since it was a long day at work (noon til eight at night), I decided to have a quick cat nap.......only that nap lasted the rest of the night. And unfortunately, I have to go to work right now. But don't you fret, comrades. Day 3's posting shall be up this afternoon. So be patient, and you'll get to see a beautiful woman soon.........very soonish.

Day 2- Redneck Zombies!

Copic Marker & Ink

Copic Marker & Ink

I'm a little bit late, but that's okay cause we have two characters for the price of one! Yesterday was a little crazy due to work, which is why it took so long to upload these guys (plus, instead of being a good little boy who stayed to work in his studio, Josiah decided to take a slight detour and socialize with his room mates),  But ja, I have to say combining zombies and rednecks was a blast. In case you are wondering, there will be another post tonight (It is day 3 after all). Thanks for being patient and see you later!

Day 1 - The Vikings Have Landed

Ink & Copic Marker

I dunno what it is, but drawing Vikings is always so much fun (I think it's the helmets and the crazy beards). It makes me happy though. This is actually my first attempt at using copic markers (thanks Julia for leaving all those awesome art supplies for me!). But ja, I foresee more copic marker sketches in the future.

My Imaginary Friend Wears A Top Hat

                                   Watercolor & Graphite
(Autumn Whispers Font Courtesy of Press Gang Studios)

Hello.

My name is Josiah Callaway and I am an insomniac who enjoys creating art.

 It's true.

Gimme paper, pencils, and a whole lot of caffeine, and I'll stay up all night imagining little monsters having a tea party and all other manner of things. To me, nothing is more marvelous than thinking up concepts for monsters, environments, and just pure randomness. However, in all my excitement, I forgot to properly welcome everyone to my humble blog. Now, it's not much but I call it home (just needs a few throw pillows and some curtains). And for the next few months, you, the readers, will begin to grasp what dwells in the mind of this rather eccentric artist. Exciting isn't it?

In other news, I'm going to try a little challenge called the 31 Days of Characters. What is this contest? Well, I'm going to be attempting to create at least one new character a day for the next 31 days.   I'll be happy to take any suggestions (just shoot me an e-mail at greenthumb842@gmail.com). So keep your eyes peeled for some new, strange artsy fartsy stuff.
